456.5003 Genus Valerianella Mill.; Gard. Dict. Abr., ed. 4: 1431 (1754)
Distribution: Temperate Eurasia from W-Europe and Mediterranean to Caucasus, Middle Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, N- and South Africa, North America. The genus is sometimes included in a Valeriana sensu latissimo, which seems too much lumping. A split of Valeriana into several genera would make more sense.
