; Kongl. Vetensk. Acad. Nya Handl. 21: 239 (1800) s. str.
Distribution: Florida and tropical America, only 1 in Brazil. Generic results have led to a drastic change in the circumscription of Oncidium s. str. (M. W. Chase & N. H. Williams 2008), removing practically all Brazilian species except one into Gomesa and other genera, but newly including Cochlioda, Odontoglossum and Symphyglossum. Species delimitation is very much disputed in many cases, leading to complex nomenclature.
