Remarks: Contains sympatric spring- and autumn-flowering populations, which deserve varietal rather than specific rank (Dimopoulos et al. 2013). The spring-flowering variety is true M. officinarum, whereas the widespread autumn-flowering variety is M. autumnalis Bertol.
